Program 6 - Proposal

From the Divine Love to the Good Love of D. Inês

Juan Ruiz's "Book of Good Love" (c.1330-43), which may be assumed in the iconographic program of the tomb of D. Inês, is a milestone in the development of Iberian literature in the fourteenth century; the author intertwines in his narration the notions of divine love and human love, also using numerical symbology to underline this interrelationship.

Intermed with this poetic text, we may propose here a musical program consisting of pieces from the Galician-Portuguese troubadour tradition and the contemporary composers of D. Pedro and D. Inês, namely Philippe de Vitry and Guillaume de Machaut in France, and Jacopo da Bologna and the young Landini in Italy.
